The Netherlands Centre for the Study of Early Christianity would like to invite you to participate in a symposium entitled: “Augustine as Bible Interpreter”.

Friday November 6, 2020

3:00-4:45 PM (CET)

Two renowned specialists in the field of Augustinian studies will provide an exposition on this topic and respond to questions. The symposium will be held on Zoom.

Speakers:

Dr. Karla Pollmann, “Nos tempora sumus. Time and ethics in Augustine”

Prof. Pollmann is the Dean of Arts at the University of Bristol and teaches at the Department of Classics and Ancient History as well as the Department of Religion and Theology.

Dr. Enrique Eguiarte, “The Biblical Exegesis of Augustine on the Letter to the Galatians”

Prof. Eguiarte is a professor at the Institutum Patristicum Augustinianum in Rome and the director of two scholary journals: AVGVSTINVS and Mayéutica.

Program and discussion moderators: Dr. Nienke Vos (VU), Dr. Bart Koet (TST) and Dr. Matthias Smalbrugge (VU), in co-operation with Dr. Arnold Smeets (TST) and Dr. Laela Zwollo (TST).

The symposium will be held in English.

The Netherlands Centre for the Study of Early Christianity focuses on interdisciplinary scholary studies on the early church in its historical and cultural context. The research institute is supported by the Faculty of Religion and Theology (FRT) at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and the Tilburg School of Catholic Theology. The directors are Dr. Bert Jan Lietaert Peerbolte (VU) and Dr. Bart Koet (TST).
